Community Planning: How Your Neighbors and Friends Can Plan for Disaster

Many of us have come to accept the fact that disasters are an inescapable fact of our world. Indeed, we know that between climate change, and our increasingly technologically reliant world, the list of potential causes of disruption is growing. However, while it may be the case that you’ve made preparations to protect you and your immediate family in a disaster, it’s important to think a little bigger and look to the community.  Our current pandemic has served to demonstrate that surviving and recovering from a disaster can’t rely upon individual efforts alone. It takes the cooperation of the entire … Continue reading

Getting Ready for the Coming Wild Economic Ride – Part 2

In part one, we just finished talking about reducing your material footprint, so that you start to wean yourself from the “luxury must-haves” that you consume now. This also goes for any vices you have. The sudden withdrawal from nicotine, alcohol and caffeine will change your behavior. The more vices you have, the more difficult you’ll have in coping without them. Start weaning yourself off them now. After the balloon pops on this economic bubble we’re in, common daily items are going to disappear fast, and after that, they’ll be in short supply. Look at any country that has gone … Continue reading

Getting Ready for the Coming Wild Economic Ride – Part 1

Undoubtedly, you’ve seen the recent shakeup in the news on how the Fed is thinking about tightening up the free money they’ve been handing out to bankers. The purpose of all this printed money, we were told, was to give the economy time to heal itself and thus avoid an economic collapse. Trillions of dollars were given to Wall Streeters and bankers, yet we have little to show for it. The media has long ignored the fact that this injection of money hasn’t accomplished anything but keep friends of the Fed in a constant supply of cash. This is, of … Continue reading

Surviving EMP – Faraday Box Testing – Part 3

This is part three of my three-part video series on testing Faraday shielding. In this video, I show how many layers of aluminum foil it takes to successfully shield a 50,000 watt AM signal, while standing at the base of the stations antenna array. Be sure to check out Part 1 for an explanation on why this testing is far superior than using a cell phone or ‘walkie-talkie’ for testing the shielding effectiveness. This was part of the research I did for the The Preparedness Podcast Mini-Guide: Surviving EMP [Kindle Edition] ebook. Relavent links: The Preparedness Podcast Mini-Guide: Surviving EMP [Kindle Edition] ebook … Continue reading

Surviving EMP – Faraday Box Testing – Part 1

When I was testing different Faraday containers, I took three videos of what worked and demonstrated it shielding 50,000 watts of AM radio signal. A strong AM radio signal, is a good test of EM/RF shielding, because the properties of medium wave allow it to easily penetrate most materials. Since we want to shield against high-levels of EM waves, if you can block a strong AM signal when standing at the base of the station’s antenna, you know you have decent shielding. in this first video, I show how nesting Faraday shielding with aluminum foil and a metal trash can … Continue reading

Why Being Prepared is Better

Given the name of this website and the podcast, it’s fairly obvious that I am a proponent of being prepared. While I derived this opinion from decades of personal experience, looking at the major disasters over the past few years should make it obvious, to even the casual observer, that individual preparedness is the key to making it through a disaster or crisis event. Individual preparedness can also lead to community preparedness, where we could all gain from being a country of self reliant people. When you’re prepared, not only do you have the things that your family will need, … Continue reading

The Preparedness Podcast Mini-Guide: Surviving EMP

NOW AVAILABLE IN PRINT! Available on: Kindle and Print Edition In a blink of an eye, life as you know it can change forever. In the aftermath of an EMP attack or a CME impact from the sun, the power grid will go down and it will be months or years before it is restored. In that time, millions of people will have starved to death. Both an EMP and a CME can permanently take down the power grid in the United States, leaving hundreds of millions of people without electricity, water, food, and medicine. Urban areas will soon erupt … Continue reading

Will You Survive a Collapse Crisis?

Charlie McGrath of WideAwakeNews.com did an excellent video essay on getting home safely. In this video, Charlie shows how having a Get Home Bag, which is his EDC – Every Day Carry, and a plan to get home via an alternate route can keep you much safer than trying to face whatever upheaval is happening in the city. Have you made your plan to get back home? Do you carry a Get Home Bag with you all the time? you can also watch it on YouTube here: http://youtu.be/lmudsLgEvWM
