Prepping in the Remote Work Era: How Employees Can be Prepared at Home If Disaster Strikes

Splashy things like guns, food, water, and bunkers often take center stage in the prepper world. Nevertheless, sometimes it’s important to step back and consider if you’re prepared for more unique, down-to-earth disasters. Case in point: trying to navigate external troubles while working from home.  Millions of people are working on the homefront in the wake of the coronavirus. This virtual connection to one another is tenuous at best, with communication issues always a faulty router, weak internet connection, or power outage away. If a disaster strikes while you’re working remotely, here are a few bonus prepper tips that you’re … Continue reading

Will Going Green Help to Prevent Natural Disasters?

In the realm of sustainability, humanity made great strides in 2019. Specifically, Europe was a notable standout in the burgeoning green revolution, as three distinct European nations — Denmark, Germany, and the U.K.— broke renewable energy records. It’s clear that sustainability is finally getting the attention it deserves as a major force against the effects of climate change.  But are global sustainability efforts actually making a difference? The answer is complex. A recent poll determined that nearly 8 in 10 Americans believe that human activity is helping to fuel climate change. Further, about half of those polled said that “action … Continue reading

How to Prepare for a Natural Disaster When You Have a Chronic Illness

Modern society is rife with individuals who suffer from chronic, debilitating illnesses. From diabetes and heart disease to autoimmune conditions, cancer, and mental health issues, chronic conditions are almost the norm rather than the exception. The National Health Council reports that approximately 157 million Americans will be living with a chronic illness in 2020, which is roughly 40% of the total population. The unpleasant reality is that this segment of the population is extremely vulnerable in the event of a long-term grid-down scenario, large-scale weather event, or economic crash. Being unprepared for sudden power loss or a similar eventuality can … Continue reading

Getting Ready for the Coming Wild Economic Ride – Part 2

In part one, we just finished talking about reducing your material footprint, so that you start to wean yourself from the “luxury must-haves” that you consume now. This also goes for any vices you have. The sudden withdrawal from nicotine, alcohol and caffeine will change your behavior. The more vices you have, the more difficult you’ll have in coping without them. Start weaning yourself off them now. After the balloon pops on this economic bubble we’re in, common daily items are going to disappear fast, and after that, they’ll be in short supply. Look at any country that has gone … Continue reading

Surviving EMP – Faraday Box Testing – Part 3

This is part three of my three-part video series on testing Faraday shielding. In this video, I show how many layers of aluminum foil it takes to successfully shield a 50,000 watt AM signal, while standing at the base of the stations antenna array. Be sure to check out Part 1 for an explanation on why this testing is far superior than using a cell phone or ‘walkie-talkie’ for testing the shielding effectiveness. This was part of the research I did for the The Preparedness Podcast Mini-Guide: Surviving EMP [Kindle Edition] ebook. Relavent links: The Preparedness Podcast Mini-Guide: Surviving EMP [Kindle Edition] ebook … Continue reading

Surviving EMP – Faraday Box Testing – Part 1

When I was testing different Faraday containers, I took three videos of what worked and demonstrated it shielding 50,000 watts of AM radio signal. A strong AM radio signal, is a good test of EM/RF shielding, because the properties of medium wave allow it to easily penetrate most materials. Since we want to shield against high-levels of EM waves, if you can block a strong AM signal when standing at the base of the station’s antenna, you know you have decent shielding. in this first video, I show how nesting Faraday shielding with aluminum foil and a metal trash can … Continue reading
