Episode 186 – Non-Firearm Defense Options

On this podcast episode, I discuss some of the options for non-firearm defensive weapons. I also clearly make the point (perhaps droning on a tad too much about it) that using anything other than a firearm is really a substandard defensive tactic. However, there are those times or situations where having a firearm is either impractical or unrealistic, and so, we look at some of the options available. You can find the list that I reference here: Non-Firearm Defensive Weapons. I’m not sure if I made it clear in the podcast, but simply having a weapon, whether a gun or … Continue reading

Non-Firearm Defense Options

Non-Firearm Defense Options Keep in mind that non-firearm weapons have much less range and are not as effective in stopping an attacker. If you are looking into non-lethal or non-firearm weapons because you don’t want to hurt or kill anyone, you need to do some deep thinking on the topic. Anyone that breaks into your home, especially if they know that you’re inside, intends to harm you, one way or another. Whatever the reason they decide to enter your home, the fact that they do so knowing that you’re inside tells you that they aren’t afraid of you and will … Continue reading

National Ammo Shortage

Author Bob Owens has written an interesting article analyzing the national ammo shortage.  Ownes makes three arguments and dismisses the military as the prime cause of the shortages.  Most of the blame is placed on Civilian law enforcement agencies, both local and federal.  As the level of militarization increases within these agencies their ammo consumption has risen to meet the demands.   Lastly, Owens makes the claim that it’s us every day people causing the shortage as spurred on by his last two arguments:  Economic instability and fear of draconian firearm and ammo legislation. I can’t say that I disagree.  I … Continue reading

Top Off, and top off now.

“Top Off” – whuzzat? Top Off, topping off, whatever you want to call it. It’s the process of getting the last few “gotta have” things before things start getting really hectic. Things are about to start getting really hectic about right now. Even though the current administration had firearms control language in its information websites for quite a while, there were plenty of folks out there that continued to say there’s no issue here, yet. People that were planning for an AWB (Assault Weapons Ban) were panicking, the sky is falling, etc etc. Ok, the sky is now descending at … Continue reading

Episode 11 – Guns for Home Defense

This Episode’s topic is on Defensive guns, particularly for Home Defense. In our past Episodes, we have geared our discussions towards beginning preps, but in this show, we’re going to be talking about concepts beyond beginning preparedness. In order to be serious about defending yourself and your family, you need a firearm. There’s no other tool that allows you even the ‘playing field’ against criminals. DISCLAIMER: Know your locals laws. Get professional training. Do your own research.

Episode 3 – Preparedness Issues that Face us Today

Reviewing and discussing our posts on ThePreparednessBlog.com (now found on http://www.thepreparednesspodcast.com). Three main threats that we’re facing right now: Economic Crash, Food shortages, Terrorism. Preparedness is about keeping your options open and keeping opportunities available. Everyday items you can stock up on now. Panic buying of guns and ammo. Chances are, if you don’t have it now, you either can’t get it or you’re going to pay a lot more for it. Weight of supplies and portability. Does your spouse know how to do everything you can do? Did you write everything down so their survival chances are maximized … Continue reading

See how long that took?

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h110-6257 Yep, folks, here we go. Not that we ever stopped to begin with…. “H.R. 6257: Assault Weapons Ban Reauthorization Act of 2008” introduced June 6th, 2008, but sooner or later will be either A)headed to commitee or B)have the wording introduced into other bills.  Some interesting verbiage to note, too: (b) DEFINITION OF SEMIAUTOMATIC ASSAULT WEAPON- Section 921(a) of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding after paragraph (29) the following: ‘(30) The term ‘semiautomatic assault weapon’ means– ‘(A) any of the firearms, or copies or duplicates of the firearms in any caliber, known as– ‘(i) Norinco, … Continue reading

Post-Election Gun and Ammo Hysteria

If the post-election gun and ammo buying hysteria isn’t proof of why preparedness is needed I don’t know what is. Gun sales have increased and many places, Internet and traditional, are reporting that they’ve been almost bought out of their stock. It’s this mad rush for suddenly (perceived) scarce resources that “preppers” try and avoid. All of this over something that has yet to happen, all of this based on what might happen, has sent people rushing for guns and ammo that have previously been available without question. Now think if this was something necessary to life, like food or … Continue reading
