The Mississippi River Is Drying Up

That this has happened before in history does little to comfort those that are having to deal with this.  Unfortunately, droughts are very long term disasters.  They have a long onset and, usually, a long dissipation.  Even if the area was to get a lot of rainfall, it doesn’t necessarily mean the drought is over.  And to think that Iowa was nearly under water only a few short years ago.
