  1. re: Weekly Preparedness Tip #37 Day Camping. This is a very good suggestion. We do camp a lot on a somewhat rustic level relative to modern camping with generators and all. I realized however recently that there is a major difference between a day-hike backpack and a bug-out-bag. I’ve been trying to make them dual purpose and it just doesn’t work. But I don’t want to have two different bags so I’ve come to the idea that a pack should be outfitted with components. I use zip-loc bags and have made (I mean my wife has made) out of blue jean trouser legs cut below the knee and hemmed and latched with sewed on velcro. One bag has items for a day hike, others for an extended sustainable exit. Bags are labeled and the situation would determine which ones to grab. I’m still working on it.
