A sundry is a miscellaneous item that isn’t important enough to list individually. We use them daily, like soap, deodorant, cotton swabs, etc. It’s easy to put together a kit that has enough sundries to last you 3 months or so. Here are 59 sundries to add to your kit.
You could also call this a personal hygiene, sanitation or comfort kit, depending on your preference. But the goal of this kit is to give you the items that you need on a daily basis. They’re usually small and I think you’ll be surprised at how small a pack like this can be, even with bulky items like TP.
I think I mentioned this on a previous podcast, but you should be keeping track of how long these sundry items last. One way to do this is to write the date on the container when you opened it or began using it. When it’s depleted and you go to throw it away, you can check the date and note how long is lasted. For example, if you were to keep a permanent marker in your bathroom, when you crack open a new tube of toothpaste, you can write the date on the tube.
This is good to know for all of these sundries, as these are the items that you’re going to miss most, if you can’t go buy them at the store. Having this knowledge also makes it easy to know how much to stock up on during sales and how many you need for a certain period of time, like say, a year’s worth.
Before you go looking for a bag or container to put this in, I think it would be a good idea to assemble all of the items first, then look at how much space it’s going to take. Then you can find an appropriately sized container for everything.
It’s likely that you’ll be able to put the sundries for your entire family into one container. Many of the things we use everyday, like toiletries, last a reasonably long time. For example, a tube of toothpaste. It lasts for two or three months, depending on the size of the tube.
