Anniversary of 1859 Carrington Event

From SpaceWeather.com: Today is the anniversary of an historic solar storm, the Carrington Event. On Sept. 2, 1859, a CME struck Earth’s magnetic field with such power that telegraph stations caught fire and people in Cuba read their morning newspapers by the red light of the aurora borealis. If a similar storm struck our planet today, it might cause trillions of dollars of damage to society’s high-tech infrastructure. Could the Carrington Event happen again? It almost did just a few years ago. Extreme solar storms–past, present and future–are highlighted on today’s edition of http://spaceweather.com. As a reminder, a major CME … Continue reading

X-Class Solar Flare February 25, 2014

SpaceWeather.com just released the following notification: Long-lived sunspot AR1967 returned to the Earthside of the sun on Feb. 25th and promptly erupted, producing an X4.9-class solar flare.  This is the strongest flare of the year so far and one of the strongest of the current solar cycle. This is a very massive CME projected from the sun. It is *not* earthbound, as the sunspot was pointed away from earth. This time. This sunspot, AR1967, is rounding its way towards earth, though, and scientists have previously stated concern that the sunspot could launch a large CME towards earth. The CME just … Continue reading

Episode 189 – Carrington Non-Event, The Coming Pandemic, To Ham or Not To Ham

-= PODCAST TOPICS =- Carrington-level event near miss – False! Notes for this section: Recently, EMPAct America released a statement that we had a near miss of a Carrington-level event: “There had been a near miss about two weeks ago, a Carrington-class coronal mass ejection crossed the orbit of the Earth and basically just missed us,” said Peter Vincent Pry. Turns out, this was wrong. What was he thinking? The news that we had a near-miss in inaccurate. In a newsletter from SpaceWeather.com, they had this to say about the Carrington-sized near-miss event: QUIET SUN: Many readers are asking about … Continue reading

UPDATED August 6, 2013: The news that we had a near-miss in inaccurate. In a newsletter from SpaceWeather.com, they had this to say about the Carrington-sized near-miss event: QUIET SUN: Many readers are asking about a recent media report, which stated that a Carrington-class solar storm narrowly missed Earth two weeks ago. That report is inaccurate. Solar activity was low throughout July and remains low as August begins. Details at http://spaceweather.com . Hopefully, Dr. Peter Vincent Pry at EMPact America will come forth and explain his reasoning for this error. Otherwise, it’s going to be difficult to take him seriously anymore, … Continue reading

Episode 180 – The EMP Shield Project

As we have discussed on the podcast previously, there exists a real and credible threat of an EMP attack on the US. It’s a relatively easy form of attack, and can be carried out by nearly all of our country’s enemies. All it takes is one nuclear burst high in the atmosphere, and one second later, we’re pushed back a couple of hundred years. I’ll be giving two EMP classes at the upcoming Prepare2Endure Emergency Preparedness Expo. On June 8th and 9th, in Bakersfield, CA. Find out more about this expo at Prepare2Endure.com. I also interviewed Brian and Daron Payne, … Continue reading

Surviving EMP – Faraday Box Testing – Part 3

This is part three of my three-part video series on testing Faraday shielding. In this video, I show how many layers of aluminum foil it takes to successfully shield a 50,000 watt AM signal, while standing at the base of the stations antenna array. Be sure to check out Part 1 for an explanation on why this testing is far superior than using a cell phone or ‘walkie-talkie’ for testing the shielding effectiveness. This was part of the research I did for the The Preparedness Podcast Mini-Guide: Surviving EMP [Kindle Edition] ebook. Relavent links: The Preparedness Podcast Mini-Guide: Surviving EMP [Kindle Edition] ebook … Continue reading

Surviving EMP – Faraday Box Testing – Part 1

When I was testing different Faraday containers, I took three videos of what worked and demonstrated it shielding 50,000 watts of AM radio signal. A strong AM radio signal, is a good test of EM/RF shielding, because the properties of medium wave allow it to easily penetrate most materials. Since we want to shield against high-levels of EM waves, if you can block a strong AM signal when standing at the base of the station’s antenna, you know you have decent shielding. in this first video, I show how nesting Faraday shielding with aluminum foil and a metal trash can … Continue reading
